February 2016 | Monthly Favorites

Well it has been almost an entire month since my last post.. whoops. So, without rehashing my failures, here’s the best stuff this last month had to offer me.

At the beginning of this month my Dad and I went to see The Finest Hours. I knew I wanted to see this movie purely because it was set in the 1950’s, so I knew I’d love the sets, makeup, hair, and costuming. It also happens to be about a true life historical event, another thing I’m into. The plot was basically about a very small group of coast guardsmen who are sent out on an impossible mission. Well, spoiler alert, this is a Disney movie. THANK GOD. I had seen not-Disney movie after not-Disney movie and I was getting seriously sick of leaving the movie theater feeling worse than when I came in. I mean, really, can something good happen for once?! Well, it’s a Disney movie, so by default, there is a happy ending. Again, THANK GOD. Oh and also, tons of hotties. 10 out of 10, would recommend.

Did you think this guy was apart of The Finest Hour cast? While he certainly looks the part, this babe was actually living in the 1950’s. My music obsession of February has oddly enough been a jazz musician, Chet Baker. He plays mostly trumpet along with a few other instruments, and does some super sexy singing. February is tough because you know nicer weather is just around the corner, but your winter blues are clinging on for dear life. I just haven’t been in the mood to listen to anything with lyrics, or acoustic guitar, or anything that might invoke any negative emotion. My buddy Chet has been exactly what I’ve needed to avoid all that, not to mention TOTAL HOTTIE. Wow, so many hotties this month.

It wouldn’t be a favorites without makeup, now would it? I bought my first Colour Pop lipstick this month.. clearly should have gotten on that train a long time ago. I went for Lumiere 2 in the Ultra Matte Lip, which is sort of a dark mauve-y purple-y color. Looks like this on my lips. Certainly lives up to all the hype it’s getting in the online beauty world. I would however mention to anyone who goes ahead and purchases one of these beauties, make sure to check your teeth after you eat. The color holds great, but it does flake a little so you can end up with a serious case of lipstick teeth.

My second beauty favorite is this Jordana blush in Rose Silk. Not a lot to say to say about this product other than it’s amazing. Great color payoff, long lasting, no smell, basically everything you want in a blush.

MargotvsLily_ABetterForItProduction_16X9_original_native_1600

My absolute favorite thing of the month is this (fictional) mini series on YouTube by Nike, Margot vs. Lily. It’s about 2 sisters who challenge each other to basically achieve what the other already has. Margot, to create a successful YouTube fitness channel, and Lily, to make new friends. It’s hilarious, relatable, and really well made. The script will make you laugh, the set will make you want to redecorate, and the characters will make you want to workout and then eat potato chips. Besides the series itself, with each episode they have actually made a super short of Lily’s channel. Of course, this is advertising for Nike, so they encourage you to download their Nike+ Training App. I did and let me tell you, that little app can kick your ass.

I hope you checkout one or two of my favorites from this month, you won’t be disappointed. I made a calendar of potential posts for March, so.. I might post more than twice this month.. WATCH OUT WORLD!

January 2016 | Monthly Favorites

January has just been dragging by.. like, slow and painful. I think it might be my least favorite, and then February. But, despite my hate for it’s winter-y-ness, I still have some favorite things from the month that I want to share with you.

My number one favorite thing of the month was Yoga with Adriene’s Yoga Camp. Yoga Camp is 30 days of yoga, with an emphasis on both a healthy body and mind. In addition to a daily practice video, Adriene offers a daily affirmation or mantra. Everything from I Am Strong to I Deserve. You sort of fill in the blank to make the affirmation work for you. She sends out these great inspiration emails every morning with the link to the video, the affirmation, and a little pep talk. I feel like this girl is one of my friends. For those of you are who very serious about yoga, she might not be the girl for you. She’s very lighthearted and absolutely hilarious, which for me is encouraging and motivating. She is an amazing guide, coaching you through each pose, offering to catch you if you fall, and always encouraging you to find what feels good. You can being your 30 days of Yoga Camp at anytime (including the daily email), and it’s free! Learn more and sign-up here!

Next on my list would have to be my Shensee watch. This little buddy cost me a whole $4.40 and it tells time. Honestly, don’t even care if it tells time. Just wanted it to look stylish, and it does. If you are like me and can’t afford a Daniel Wellington or Kate Spade or any other large face leather band beauty, try this guy on for size.

Another practical addition to my wardrobe are my UrbanEars Plattan headphones. While my previous pair worked alright, the sound quality wasn’t great, and they were red, which did not match all my outfits. Yes. That matters. These are relatively inexpensive and great quality. They come with a poster and stickers too. Now I just need to make a cute little bag to carry them in!

In the beauty department, I had a hard time deciding. My skin hates winter as much as I do, which makes it difficult to determine how good a product is when it works one week and doesn’t the next. One minute I would say it’s my Ocean Salt Cleanser from Lush, and the next I would say it’s my Sensitive Post Shave Balm from Nivea (if you haven’t heard, this the new ‘best primer ever’). My skin is just too all over the place, even my eye shadows aren’t working right. However, it has been requested I write more beauty reviews or tutorials. Perhaps I will give that a go.. remember last week when I was going to write more editorials? We’ll get there.

Well, clearly I’d highly recommend all this stuff. Especially the yoga. I need to write a health update as well. Seriously. What am I doing? I have so much to write about and blog like twice a month.. I’m sorry.

May Favorites

I’m a material girl, no qualms about it. May means birthday presents, and for the last 3 months I have been receiving a makeup subscription box called Ipsy. So, here are some of the things, mostly provided by my birthday or Ipsy, that I have been using and loving throughout the month of May.

Glamoureyes Mascara – Stila
When my Aunt Sue (an infamous gift giver) asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I said makeup. Next thing I know there is a box of Stila products at my door. She killed it. This mascara has been my new favorite, replacing my Two Faced Better Than Sex. I like my lashes to look full and thick, even a little on the messy side. I want it to be obvious that I am wearing mascara, like Hello Lashes! Mascara and brows are the 2 things I have to wear everyday.

Into The Wild Body Spray – Bath and Body Works
I got this several semi-annual sales ago, and it has since been my go-to summer scent. I tried to find it on their website, but I think it has been discontinued. You know they re-bottle/brand their scents under different names though, so I’m sure there is something very close. You can also purchase it on Amazon. I’m not even going to try and describe, just know I love it, and you should buy it for yourself because it’s nice, and then we could all smell the same and start some kind of smell-good club.

LipPerfection Jumbo Gloss Balm in Haute Pink Twist – Covergirl
I think I paid maybe $2.00 for this. Sale price at Target. Gotta love those sale bins on the back end caps by the toothpaste, or hate them because you buy things like mousse foundation that has glitter in it.. that was a waste of money. But this! This was not a waste. I love the formula of these gloss balms, very smooth and moisturizing. They have pretty good color payoff, but they aren’t too bright. You know, so it’s not like whoa, LIPS! More like, soft pretty pink lips.

Eye Shadow in Kitten – StilaBAM! This eyeshadow. Yah need it. Best browbone highlight. I have seen so many great tutorials using this. Kitten is slightly sparkly, but not too sparkley, and it works with both warm and cool tones. YAH NEED IT! I also like to wear this all over my lid with a light brown in my crease on days were I’m not going all out. Thanks again Aunt Sue. Did I mention she killed it?

ChromaSilk VIVIDS in Violet by Pravana

If you are coloring your hair a “fantasy” color, and you’ve done your research, you know Pravana. Pravana is professional color, so if you are not a professional, you will have to find yourself one to buy you this good-good. My amazing stylist/colorist/all-around great friendist, Jacqueline gave this to me for my birthday. This color makes your hair SO (insert color here). My hair is violet, which is why I’ve been wearing mainly cool tones. I can warm warm tones now, but prior to my four hair washes, my hair was so freaking purple, that I much preferred cool tones. I could go on and on about how obsessed with my own hair I was (still am), since using this color. OBSESSED. HAIR FLIP.

Blush in Charmed – Hikari
This folks, is why I decided to invest in a subscription box service. This is a full size blush that cost $15 (plus whatever shipping is), and the Ipsy bag cost $10 a month. I want new products all the time, so the subscription box has totally saved me some money. Not to mention try brands that I normally wouldn’t. ANYWAY, the blush. This blush is pigmented as heck, like watch yourself because you might end up look like a little miss pageant girl. This color a cool toned pink, which is great because usually pinks around this shade can look too warm and coral-y.

Leggings in Black – New Mix
My Mom bought these for me my birthday. I can’t direct you where to buy them, because she bought them for me at a boutique in Michigan. BUT in case you ever run into them someplace, you should grab a pair or two. These are fairly thin, so it’s something you’d want to wear with a dress over it, to totally cover your bum. I like them because while they aren’t tights, which constantly fall down on me, you can still slightly see my tattoos through, and thus they are breathable. Only downside, you can’t dry them, so if you’re like me, you really have to try and remember to pull them out at the end of the wash cycle. They are one-size fits all, which totally freaked me out, but they do in fact fit my big ole booty.

Authentic Lo Pro in Black – Vans

My most favorite shoes ever. I have them in teal as well, but I needed the black and white so I could wear them with everything. These shoes are comfortable, and stylin’. I would choose these over Converse, because they have more support and are a little more durable.

Those were my favorite products of May. I hope I’ve encouraged you to add them to your wish-list, they are absolutely worth it. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments below!

Winter Beauty Essentials

It is finally starting to feel like spring! All that is left of the snowman Audrey and I built is a stick (he lost his other arm in a fight with a drunk person). I have been wanting to do monthly favorites, but obviously that hasn’t happened. So, here are some of the products I have been loving throughout my least favorite season.

I got this Clarisonic Mia 2 from my parents for Christmas. It is an investment, but so worth it. I’ve been wanting a Clarisonic for quite some time. It gets deep into your pores to really cleanse your skin. I have combination skin, with a occasional breakouts. If my skin isn’t hydrated enough, it is either very oily, or dry and flakey. When I first got my Clarisonic I was, of course, totally obsessed with it. I used the sensitive brush and washed my face twice a day with it. After the initial shock to my skin, where you turn into a total pizza face, I have cut back my use to a couple times a week. I have less break outs, and the texture of my skin is much softer. If you are a person who takes very good care of your skin, I would highly recommend a Clarisonic, and the Mia 2 just happens to come in tons of colors and is generally adorable.

Another Christmas present! My brother works in sales for Aesop, and at Thanksgiving my Dad visited him out in LA. Sye took our Dad to the shop he works at, and that is how I ended up with a bunch of full size products. (Thanks guys!) Aesop is high end, and while I would love to be able to regularly buy high end products, I don’t. Receiving these products was a real treat. Aesop carries products for every skin type. These are the products my brother recommended for mine, and I LOVE them. They all feel light and refreshing on my skin. I have noticed, since using Aesop and the Clarisonic, a significant difference in my skin. From over texture, to less breakouts, to a more even skin tone.

This has been my go-to combination for foundation over the winter. My skin has been all over the place, from using new products, to just generally hating winter. I wanted something that would be the least heavy on my skin. I start by using the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Treatment Concealer. I apply this under my eyes using my fingers. Then using the Sigma f86, I buff it out under my eyes, and then take the excess to cover any redness around my nose, on my chin, and in the center of my forehead. Next I use my Sigma f80 and my Bare Minerals Matte foundation. Honestly, these two products are not the perfect combination, but my goal for winter was to work on my skin as a whole, so I didn’t want to invest much into products that I might not use after I found my perfect skin balance.

This is my favorite gel eyeliner of all time. I used to struggle using gel liner, which was 100% due to using crappy brushes. The brush in this picture is actually a liquid liner from Victoria Secret that ran out a while ago. I love the felt tip brush though, so I continue to use it, just dipping it in the gel liner pot.

Everyone knows I’m obsessed with eyebrows. I had previously been using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, but after the suggestion of several friends that have amazing brows, I have switched the Dip Brow. The Dip Brow is a little bit more challenging as you are using a brush instead of a pencil. ABH sells a brush, but it’s $18.00, so I decided to try this Ardell brush instead. You need them both. Anastasia Dip Brow in soft brown, and the Ardell Duo Brow Brush. Yah need em.

Jaclyn Hill is my absolute favorite beauty YouTuber. Honestly, if Jaclyn Hill says it’s amazeballs, it is, and I want it. Several months ago she went on raving about how amazing these eye shadows by Morphe were. A couple months later she collaborated with them to create this steal of a frickin’ deal, palette. The Jaclyn Hill Favorites Palette is now my go to palette on a daily basis. This palette has warm and cool tones, shimmers and mattes, and neutral and bold colors. It is out of stock right now, but it should be restocked soon. If you are wanting to grow your makeup collection without investing a lot of money, Morphe is the way to go. By far the highest quality product you can by at the lowest price. So good.

I’ve been trying to wear more lipstick lately. Usually what happens is I put it on in the morning, and then forget it at home, and thus by the afternoon, I am no longer wearing lipstick. Oops. Right now my favorite is this Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in number 104. The formula is smooth, and stays on as long as you don’t rub it off while your chowin’ down on your lunch. The other lipstick is Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick in Supermodel (I think, I forgot both of them at home and I’m writing this post at work). This lipstick is so pretty on the lips, but it feels not so great. It’s very waxy. I actually wouldn’t recommend it, but I love the color so much that I had to mention it. I just keep subjecting myself to it’s candle-like texture.

Around Thanksgiving I cut about 6 inches off my hair. Hopefully in the next month or so I will be taking another 2 or 3 off, and getting some funky color put in. But for now, this OGX Sea Salt Spray is my favorite to add texture and waves. It smells amazing, and since is has Moroccan argan oil in it, I like to think it is helping to keep my hair healthy as well. The other product I’ve been using more is this Regis Powder Boost Volumizer. I’m not actually sure they still make this, and if they did you’d have to buy it at the salon. I’ve had this since 2010. Is that totally gross? Do hair products made of powder go bad? It still gives me volume and texture, so I’m going to keep using it, even if it is gross.

I hope you enjoyed this favorites post. What were your favorites during winter? Is there anything I must have for spring?

Monthly Favorites: November 2014

Moschino Glamour Perfume: I got this as a gift from my Aunt and Uncle last year. The scent is both fruity and floral. Whenever I wear this I always get a bunch of compliments. I’m not sure that this would be considered a fall scent, but the packaging reminds me of holiday season, so that is when I wear it most.

IMG_2280
L.A. Colors 12 Color Eyeshadow Palette – Trendy: I bought this at the Dollar Tree during Halloween. Yep, the Dollar Tree. I bought it to use for contouring on my ghost make-up look, but it went on really well, so I decided to try it for an everyday look. It has pretty long wear, great color deposit, and a good selection of colors. My favorite is the dark pink color, bottom row, second from the left. Absolutely worth the whole dollar I spent on it!

IMG_2281
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – Carbon Black: This mascara is great for volume. I am not a huge fan of the wand, which an hourglass shape. It makes it difficult to get the lashes near the corner of your eye. I’ve been using this mostly for my top lashes only. It stays put all day without flaking, which is a must for me.

IMG_2282
Revlon Colorbrust Lip Butter – Raspberry Pie: I have a couple of these Lip Butters from Revlon. They are one of my favorite lipsticks. They go on really smoothly, and have fairly good staying power for a lipstick that cost less than $5.00. What I like most about this lipstick is it’s not a matte color, but it doesn’t have that crappy glitter stuff in it.

IMG_2291

IMG_2279
NYX Powder Blush – Mauve and Real Techinques Expert Face Brush: I love this cool pink color. It has great color deposit, and it blends really well. I have been wearing this almost every day. I apply it with the expert face brush, which is also a great foundation brush. I used to use this brush as my foundation brush, but I have since switched to a Sigma kabuki brush.

Those are all my favorites for the month of November. I have a feeling 2015 will be a much more exciting year for monthly favorites. There won’t be any Weekend Wrap-Ups for the month of December because of Vlogmas. If you haven’t already, check out my YouTube page!

Have a great week!

Monthly Favorites: October 2014

Oh heyy, my first favorites post! Here are some products I loved throughout the month of October. Last month was a big month! Every weekend had something going on, I was pretty sick for most of the month, and the weather started getting colder and dryer.

IMG_1077

Bastiste Dry Shampoo – Clean & Class Orginal: I’ve mentioned this dry shampoo on my blog before, so for all the details on Dry Shampoo, check out this post! With the weather changing, it drives my desire to shower down to about a 2. Every time it starts to get dry out, I turn into one giant rash. So anything that can help me avoid the shower, I love. Just remember to really rub this product into your roots or it will leave you looking a little dusty.

Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash: After going through my first bottle of Purity, I decided I wanted to switch it up and try something different. What I really like about this product is how soft it leaves your skin feeling after you wash. It bubbles up a bit more than Purity, which just makes me feel like I’m somehow becoming more clean. It also has almost no smell to it. I have noticed my skin is more dry, but as I mentioned before, that probably has a lot to do with the weather.

Earth Therapeutics Soft Touch Tweezers: I picked these up in the little bins by the checkout at Kohls. I had exchanged some tights from Christmas and was yet to use the few dollars on a gift card I got when I returned them. Several months ago I lost my holy grail tweezers (RIP), so being myself, I just stopped plucking my eyebrows. Well I got over the ‘natural’ look, and decided I really needed a pair of tweezers. I like these because, they are pink, and because despite not being as amazing as my tweezers I’d had since 8th grade, they are pretty accurate.

Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter Body Moisturizer: I got this little tub of lotion around the holidays last year. Now that it’s close to the Holiday’s again, I decided I could finally stop hoarding every little dip into the jar. All of the Soap & Glory lotions are moisturizing, and never leave your skin feeling greasy or oily. This one smells like.. well, just read the description on the Sephora website for that.

Josie Maran Argan Color Stick in Spice: This is another product I got around the Holiday’s last year. I love Josie Maran! Argan oil is so good for your skin, and the formula in these products is perfect. You can use this color stick on your lips or your cheeks. I mostly use it on my cheeks because I don’t really like the taste of it. It has really good color payoff, it is easily bendable, and it’s not glitter-y. I am suddenly anti-glitter, at least on my face. The color is sort of coral nude. I love using this color in the colder months.

IMG_1082

Next are my food favorites! I have been drinking a bunch of hot chocolate since it got cold out. At home I love to put a big spoonful of malt in to my cup too! A little splash of milk, and it’s perfect! Also with being so sick I’ve been drinking a lot of tea. My favorite right now is Lemon Zinger, but I also really love peppermint. I heard the other day there is a butter mint tea that tastes just like those little pastel mints. That imma need that.

image

Lastly are a few of my favorite homeware items. I had a fun little .gif for this image as well, but for some reason it wouldn’t upload. Anyway, I bought the Dairy jug at Michael’s. I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do with the jug, but it was just so cute. If you’re looking for decorations for your house, Michael’s has a bunch of cute stuff

The candle is from Menards. It was only $3.00 or so dollar. This one is the scent Apple Ale. I don’t really like sweet scents during the fall, I save those for winter, so I was happy to find an apple scent that I like. This candle is also in my favorites because the scent is really fills the air, but it isn’t overpowering.

The little blue moon planter was something I picked up from an estate sale a few weeks ago. It doesn’t have a way to drain, so I probably won’t put a real plant in it. Right now I have this little painted pine cone sitting in it as a part of my fall decorations. I’ve been thinking about taking pictures of my decorations, along with a home tour. I’ve also been DIY’ing a few little autumn things that I wouldn’t mind sharing.

Well those are my October favorites! I will be back tomorrow with my Weekend Wrap-Up!
